Meet Nugget!

Yesterday I called Sam on his way home from work to make sure he remembered that we were going to a friend's house. He said, "Yes, of course I remembered. I'm on my way home now, about five minutes from home. Can you have the kids meet me on the driveway?"

Sure, I was intrigued. With Sam it could have been anything! :)

When Sam pulled up to the driveway he stopped about twenty feet back from us, leaned his head out the window and beckoned me over to the car. The boys, of course, ran up to him. He sent them back, saying, "No, no, no. I just need to talk to your mom real quick."
So I walked up to the car to see what was going on. He had an adorable little black lab puppy in his lap!!! Sam just looked at me with a sheepish look on his face and said, "If you don't like him we can take him back...."
Bridget is in love. She thinks it's great that he loves to be held and for now, at least, he is small enough for her to hold!

Isn't he the cutest thing? Of course I like him and we'll keep him, but Sam didn't ever really doubt that I would. :)

We went through a number of names yesterday, and didn't settle on one that really fit him. Today Sam came up with "Nugget" and I think I like it. (It is in honor of Sam's favorite NBA team, the Denver Nuggets!)

Happy 6th Birthday, Henry!

Six years ago today, I became a mom. That was one of the most amazing days of my life.

It's hard to believe my little guy is already six years old.

This year, Henry has accomplished quite a bit. He has:
  • finished up his kindergarten year (this week)
  • made new friends, completely on his own
  • realized his natural athletic abilities and enjoyed scoring goals in soccer
  • come to know Jesus more and more and memorized LOTS of scripture verses
  • become very organized and orderly
  • enjoyed everything about the great outdoors
  • perfected his flip on the trampoline
  • learned to read
  • realized that he is a cowboy and must dress like one EVERY SINGLE DAY
  • developed a great sense of humor
  • daily shown his brother and sister how much he loves them

It has been a great year!!

Happy Birthday, Cowboy Henry! We love you so much!

Another thing on my mind these days is that three years ago this week, we moved from Montana to Texas. It's so weird to me that Henry has lived half his life in each state. In some ways, I miss having him grow up in the great state of Montana, and in other ways I am so glad we are here.

Henry's drawers

I wasn't planning on blogging tonight, but I just can't resist sharing this one...

After putting Bridget to bed I went in the boys' room to check on their progress. I had left them with a basket of clean, folded laundry to put away. It had taken me a while to read stories and say prayers and get Bridget down, so I expected they would be done and playing or reading books.

Instead I walked in to find Henry elbow deep in jeans and other pants. The laundry basket was untouched and Henry had completely emptied his pants drawer around himself on the floor.

Me: "What are you doing honey?"

Henry: "I'm organizing my pants drawer. It was a MESS!"

Fair enough. I went downstairs to straighten up a bit and came back up. Henry was so excited to show me what he had done. Not only had he organized his own pants drawer, but he had also done Jonah's pants drawer and both of their t-shirt drawers.

Opening up the original drawer, Henry could hardly contain his pride in his work.

Henry: "LOOK, Mommy! I separated them all out. Here is the furry pile, here are the jeans and here are noisy pants!"

*And for those who don't speak 'Henry'...furry would be sweat pants and noisy would be track pants. Really he won't wear anything except for the jeans, but he doesn't want to get rid of any...just in case. ;)

My morning laugh...

Wandering along our rocky driveway, Henry bent down and picked up a triangular-shaped white rock. "Look, Mom! I found a dinosaur tooth!"

Me: "Wow, Henry. That is too cool! Do you think it's from a t-rex?"

Henry: "Oh, no Mom. It's not for REAL. Actually I was just using my imagination."

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Henry! :)
